5-Day Getaway in Puerto Rico
If you're looking for the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and vibrant nightlife, Puerto Rico is the ultimate destination! My husband and I set off on a dreamy five-day escape, and let me tell you—this island is pure magic. From lounging by the pool to hiking through the rainforest and indulging in delicious food, here’s how we made the most of our trip.
Quick San Juan Travel Tips
Day 1: Arrival & Poolside Relaxation
We touched down on the island at 1:30 PM, ready to embrace vacation mode. Our Airbnb at Condominio Torre del Mar was the perfect home base—cozy, central, and boasting a fantastic pool. After unpacking, we grabbed some cold Medalla beers and lounged by the pool, letting the island breeze set the tone for a relaxing start. That evening, we unwound with the Commanders game playing in the background, soaking in the excitement of both football and our tropical escape.
Day 2: Hiking Through El Yunque National Forest
No trip to Puerto Rico is complete without an adventure in El Yunque National Forest. We rented a car and set off early, eager to explore this lush paradise. The Mount Britton Trail & Tower offered breathtaking views, and the El Yunque Trail took us even deeper into the rainforest’s mystical beauty. On the way back, we stumbled upon a roadside taco stand—best decision ever! Nothing beats authentic street food after a morning of hiking.
Day 3: Beach Bliss & Poolside Cocktails
The morning was all about sun, sand, and serenity at Isla Verde Beach. The soft sand and crystal-clear waters made for a picture-perfect start to the day. Later, we headed back to our Airbnb for more poolside relaxation—cocktails in hand, basking in the tropical vibes.
Day 4: Old San Juan & Fine Dining
We spent the afternoon wandering through the colorful streets of Old San Juan, stopping for photos, shopping at the vintage boutique Niftycure, and even saying hello to the adorable kitties at Cat Park.
For dinner, we dressed up and headed to Santaella, an upscale dining gem. Every dish was a masterpiece, but the Branzino was the undeniable star. For a taste of true Puerto Rican flavors, we also made a stop at Orozco’s, where we indulged in the famous trifongo—a delicious blend of plantains, yuca, and sweet potatoes paired with a rich, savory sauce.
Day 5: Breakfast, Dancing & Nightlife
We started our last full day with a laid-back breakfast at La Brasserie, savoring rich Puerto Rican coffee. Pinkys also made it onto our morning food tour for their refreshing smoothies.
As the sun set, we headed to La Placita, where open-air bars and lively music turned the streets into an electric dance floor. There’s no better way to wrap up an unforgettable trip than dancing under the stars, soaking in every last moment of the island’s vibrant energy.
Bonus: Sweet Treats
Some places are so good, you go twice—Anita Gelato was one of them! Their ice cream was the perfect way to cool off after our adventures.
Final Thoughts
Puerto Rico gave us the best of everything—lazy beach days, thrilling hikes, indulgent meals, and unforgettable nights out. Whether you're lounging by the pool, hiking through El Yunque, or sipping cocktails at a beachside bar, this island offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation for couples looking to escape to paradise.
